Temporary Lane Closures on Connecticut Avenue Between L and M Streets NW
-Information provided by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT):
Starting Sunday, December 9, 2018, the left lanes on northbound Connecticut Avenue NW will be continuously closed between L Street and M Street NW to allow the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) to install new underground pipes for cooling at the Dupont Circle and Farragut North Metrorail stations.
This work is expected to last for 20 weeks, weather permitting. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes and to avoid this area of Connecticut Avenue NW as moderate-to-heavy delays are expected.
During the project, crews will work overnight to excavate and install new pipes beneath the roadway.
The work is necessary to replace the original pipes which are damaged or have deteriorated to a point where they are no longer functional. The work is scheduled to be completed by mid-June.
Traffic controls will be in place to warn drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists approaching the area. Motorists are advised to stay alert while traveling through these locations and to be observant of the construction workers.
