Minutes from ANC2D meeting Oct 20, 2008

 

The meeting was called to order at 7pm. Both Commissioners being present, a quorum was determined and the distribution of public notice of the meeting was confirmed.

 

There was no report from MPD.

 

Abby Petersen of the Mayor’s office was present

 

Council Member Jack Evans discussed the financial status of the city and reported on the issues surrounding the schools and public safety

Michelle Molotsky from Council Member Evans’ office was present and announced her resignation. She will be moving to the Department of Parks and Recreation

 

Sarah Moulton from the Department of Parks and Recreation reported on the Erosion and Sediment Control Plan for Mitchell Park. This is to help storm water  to flow directly into the storm basin. The project is in the permitting stage and work should begin in early spring. During this project, it is expected that the park with be unavailable for use for approximately 12 weeks

 

Barry Lucas from WASA presented a plan to create a separate storm system for sewage so that sewage will go to Blue Plains and rain water over flow will be directed into Rock Creek. This is currently in the design stage and construction will begin in the Spring 2009. As this work is being done, water mains will be replaced, as will hydrants. Home owners in the affected area will have the option to replace lead service lines.

There is a federal mandate to award the contract by March 2009 and work to begin within 90 days. During construction, there will be street closures. Ms Lucas promised to return when more details and a clearer timeline is established.

 

It was announced that Call Box project has reached it’s fourth anniversary.

 

Kalorama Village now reports over 100 members

 

There has been more damage to the Spanish Steps, this time a broken over flow pipe. It was announced Spanish Steps is working on a new contract with DPW

 

We were reminded that Mitchell Park Day was Oct 26

 

There were no reports from SKHA, Neighborhood Council or Restore Mass Ave.

 

New Business:

            Kids Corner Day Care Center held a successful event at Mitchell Park Oct18

            There was an attempted break in  of a car in a gated lot at the Dresden. We are reminded to remove items from our cars that may be tempting to others

 

 

Old Business:

            HPRB hearing on the proposed Hilton changes asked them to look at changing the number of stories and to work with community groups.  The Office of planning will act as a “broker” between Lowes and the community groups

 

It was announced that the next meeting would be held on Nov 17, 2008  The meeting was adjourned at 830pm
