Minutes from ANC2D meeting Jan 26, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm.

Council Member Jack Evans swore in Mary Eva Candon as Commissioner for ANC2D02.

A quorum was determined and the distribution of public notice of the meeting was confirmed.

Council Member Evans presented a state of the city and more specifically, the state of  Ward 2.  The city financial status was reported to be very good, especially in comparison to surrounding states. The issue of school reform was also discussed. Questions were answered concerning the status of voting rights and the increase in local crime. It was noted that during the inauguration, the city hosted over 1.8 million people and there were no arrests. It was also noted that no representative from MPD had been to any ANC meetings in recent history.

It was announced that Desi Deschaine was our new representative from Council Member Evans’ office. His email address is DDeschaine@dccouncil.us.  724-8780

There was no report from MPD.

Mark Bjorge of the Mayor’s office was present and reported that the city had successfully installed speed humps on Kalorama Road between Connecticut Ave and Tracy Place and it was noted there was a dramatic decrease in traffic and speeding. It was also reported that the storm drain on 2300 Block of Kalorama was repaired.

A request by a resident on Wyoming was made for speed humps along Wyoming and there was vocal opposition to ANC wide speed humps. It was decided the city would look at the area as a whole to determine the best approach to traffic and safety and get back to us with suggestions.

Neighborhood Groups: It was reported that Mitchell Park Day will be holding a fund raising event at the French Embassy on March 9, 2009.  Sheridan Kalorama Historical Association and Neighborhood Council will be holding their annual joint meeting on Feb 24, 2009 at the Woodrow Wilson House. Restore Mass Ave reported there were 12 new trees planted and that DDOT was supporting denying additional curb cuts. It was suggested that a sister organization take responsibility for maintaining the trees in the ANC. Friends of Spanish Steps reported that DPR was “doing a great job”.

Old Business: There was no discussion of old business

New Business: It was determined a permit for the repair of the brick wall for the church at 2200 California was incorrectly granted and a representative from SKHA was to evaluate the permit. It was noted that the pedestrian pylons in the crosswalks at Wyoming and Connecticut were again knocked down. Instructions were to contact DC 311 call center to request new pylons.

It was announced that the next meeting would be held on Feb 16, 2009.  The meeting was adjourned at 845pm

Respectfully submitted,
